Artist Statement
My artwork focuses on the aspects of life that I find most invigorating. This includes the landscapes of the southwest, the emotions surrounding love and death, the balance between the surreal and the real, and the elegance of the human figure and form. Engaging with recurring dreams and perceptions, I create works that reflect the imagery of my past experiences as well as present raw and engaging emotions that show a glimpse into the human subconscious.
When I begin to start a project, I start by analyzing my dreams and subconscious ideas and blend them with aspect of real life to create the inspiration for the work. Through sketching and planning, the ideas solidify and with many hours of work, the ideas will soon generate into their physical form. The blending of the real and surreal is what I try to achieve through my artwork.
I want to bring in the subconscious nature of life into the conscious realm of human existence. Whether it is through a landscape scene or a study of the human figure, the artist’s imagination is key in making a painting truly unique. When the imagination is involved in a painting, the subconscious inhabits the work, making the painting become an extension of the artist’s soul. This is why I integrate my subconscious thought into my paintings so that every piece I create is an extension of my soul and is truly one of a kind.
